Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay after resigning as judge of the Calcutta High Court,has shown his affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Justice Gangopadhyay soon after his resignation spoke about his intention to join BJP on March 7, while attending a press conference.
The Justice however did not metion if he would be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as the decision for the same would be taken by the BJP election committee.
Justice Gangopadhyay said that whether he would contest polls or not is to be decided by BJP..however he promised to remain in BJP, saying it to be the only pan India party which is fighting a criminal party like Trinamool Congress.
Justice Gangopadhyay also cited political allegations against him as inspiration for prompting his transition into politics,
Justice also said that his pension will be much lower than what he was getting now.He added that he cannot fathom that such words can get targeted at the judiciary just because scams by TMC were being exposed by the court.
The Justice also told that he was also invited to join the BJP.
Putting all speculations to rest, the Justice told that he had to resign before retirement as he was inspired to step into politics and was invited to join the BJP.
The allegations by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee against him of ‘political orders’ were replied by the Justice.
Justice Gangopadhyay replied that MP Kalyan Banerjee was not a civilised person.
Justice Gangopadhyay was set to retire in August this year. However, he stepped down from his post on Tuesday after he sent his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu.
