The Kerala High Court has stayed the order of the National Green Tribunal Circuit Bench, banning registration of diesel vehicles above 2000 cc engine capacity. The stay order will remain effective for two months.
However, the Court refrained from passing any judgment on the green court’s other order that put a ban on light and heavy diesel vehicles more than 10 years old in six major cities, including capital Thiruvananthapuram.
The NGT will now take up the case again on 29th July 2016.
The High Court issued the order on a petition from Nippon Toyota, which pleaded that the NGT order had many legal loopholes and diesel vehicle manufacturers were not given the option to present their point of view.
NGT had delivered its judgement on a plea from Lawyers Environmental Awareness Forum which had raised the issue of pollution from diesel vehicles.
