Kolkata Doctor rape-murder case: Supreme Court seeks fresh status report from CBI, tells West Bengal Police not to hide facts from CBI

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a fresh status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following the allegations that the West Bengal police was hiding facts from the national investigation agency in the rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor that took place at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

Appearing before the Bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta flagged the issue of Kolkata Police hiding information from the CBI, which was currently probing the matter.

Appearing for CBI, the SG asked Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Kolkata Police, why the copy of the forensic report submitted before the Apex Court was not provided to him.

Sibal said the copy was only given to the judges.

Submitting a status report on behalf of CBI, SG Mehta flagged some serious issues with the forensic report.

The Bench then directed the CBI to file a fresh report by the next date of hearing on this aspect and listed the matter for further hearing on September 17.
