The Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted four weeks’ time to the state government in the matter of the sewer line under construction at Jabalpur to be investigated by the Chief Technical Examiner, Bhopal.
On Tuesday, the matter was taken up for hearing before the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice (Acting) Sanjay Yadav. During this time, Additional Advocate General R.K. Verma on behalf of the state emphasized on giving some more time. The court accepted his demand. The case will be heard again after four weeks.
The case relates to the joint hearing of the PILs by the High Court taking suo motu cognizance and PIL filed by Jabalpur Congress leader Saurabh Nati Sharma.
During the hearing, advocate Anoop Nair as a Amicus Curiae and Advocate Aditya Sanghi appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
He argued that the tortoise-like speed of sewer line work in Jabalpur and arbitrary mode of road construction is questionable. Despite the passage of more than a decade, the work on the sewer line is still stuck in the first phase. Despite such a long time, only 30 percent work has been completed. More than Rs 400 crore has been spent and the sewer line has not yet become a facility for the citizens. Therefore, a thorough examination of the technical aspect is necessary, urged the counsel.

The Court agreed to the argument and summoned the report of the Chief Technical Examiner. During the pre-hearing of the case, realizing the need to set up a special committee to oversee the sewer line work of Jabalpur, the petitioner, including the Amicus Curiae, had sought the names of the members. Time was also given for this twice, but in the meantime after considering the technical aspect of the sewer line, the court has given a new system related to the investigation from the main technical test.
