The Madras High Court has decided to allow the full capacity physical functioning of Subordinate Courts along with an option of virtual hearing while following the Standard Operating Procedure with effect from January 18.
The Administrative Committee of the Madras HC in its meeting held on December 12 took account of the past functioning of the lower courts during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak period. The Committee also considered that all other government institutions, public institutions have reopened on full scale subject to Covid-19 norms.
The Committee has resolved that the functioning of all lower courts throughout Tamil Nadu will function in a normal way as it was functioning earlier, keeping a view of the special prevailing condition.

The committee has also asked all the Principal District Judges, Principal Judge (City Civil Court, Chennai), Chief Judge (Court of Small Causes, Chennai), Chief Judge (Puducherry) to submit their suggestions in relation to the functioning of the lower courts by December 23.
