The Madras High Court has rejected a petition challenging the conviction of MLA MH Jawaharulla and other leaders of the Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) in a case related to the receipt of foreign funds.
The single-judge Bench of Justice P Velmurugan confirmed the conviction and sentence imposed on Jawaharulla.
The High Court, however, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to arrest Jawaharulla and other revision petitioners on the grounds that they were observing fast in the holy month of Ramzan.
In case the petitioners failed to obtain a stay on sentence after 30 days, the CBI can execute the Magistrate court order, it added.
