Meghalaya High Court dismisses PIL filed seeking inquiry into govt staff selection as withdrawn

The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn a PIL filed seeking inquiry into the declaration of result for the post of Lower Division Assistant by a notice dated February 5, 2021 issued by the District Selection Committee.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W. Diengdoh held that this is a cause for which no public interest litigation can be brought. It is only a person who may have been deprived of appointment to the post because of some perceived irregularity that the matter may be looked into, the Court observed.

Since the petitioner claims that he had no interest in the post, the petition is dismissed. At this stage, the petitioner seeks leave to withdraw the petition. Accordingly, the Court permitted the PIL to be withdrawn without going into the merits thereof.
