National Green Tribunal disposes of plea against tree felling over action taken

The National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) Western Zone Bench in Pune has disposed of an original application filed by Kadamba Foundation, citing adequate action taken by police authorities.

The applicants had alleged unauthorised tree cutting at a site.

During the October 14, 2024 hearing, the tribunal, comprising Judicial Member Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and Expert Member Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, noted that respondent No. 5, the Senior Police Inspector of Hadapsar Police Station, Pune, had registered a non-cognizable crime under the Maharashtra Urban Area Tree Protection Act.

The police also obtained permission for investigation and filed a chargesheet.

The NGT directed the police to pursue the case expeditiously and inform the tribunal’s registry of the outcome.

With police action underway, the tribunal found no further need to intervene, disposing of the original application.
