NGT declines Vedanta’s request seeking to reopen and maintain Sterlite plant

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday (July 30) declined Vedanta’s request to grant interim stay on the Tamil Nadu government’s order to shut down Sterlite Copper plant owned by the Vedanta Group.

The green panel also declined the request to permit Vedanta to maintain the plant.

The matter will be again heard on August 9.

It may be recalled that Tamil Nadu govt had ordered shut down of the plant after 13 people died protesting the hugely polluting plant. The people died in a police firing in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
