The National Green Tribunal on Thursday formed a committee to come up with guidelines on how to use and manage waste water generated by ROs. It further told the committee to take into consideration the suggestions from the stakeholders involved and then frame guidelines.

At today’s hearing, the bench headed by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was informed by the petitioner’s counsel that there was need for appropriate guidelines for regulation of 80 per cent of available wasted water in RO process.

The bench also observed that “in RO systems 50 per cent water is wasted”. The court further noted that “water is a scarce commodity; such wastage of water cannot be afforded”.

Earlier during the hearing, DJB said that “even new societies are providing individual RO systems for providing drinking water to its residents as opposed to a centralised RO system”.

The bench was hearing a petition related to ground water pollution.
