The National Green Tribunal on Monday passed an order directing the authorities concerned to remove all the remaining encroachments around the Govardhan Parvat area in Mathura.
The bench headed by Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore was acting on the plea pleading that municipal solid waste was being dumped on the Govardhan Parvat and the parikrama marg surrounding it, leading to pollution, and the administration was not taking proper steps for the proper collection and disposal of municipal solid waste and garbage.
During the course of proceedings, the bench observed that the concerned ADM and SDM of the area were not present. But Naib Tehsildar of Jatipura was present.
The bench asked the Tehsildar about the encroachments.
To which Tehsildar said that encroachments has been removed.
Expressing anger at this, the bench said that Tehsildar was telling lies and said “he could show Newspaper reports saying that encroachments have not been removed”.
He further asked how many shops have been removed and demanded proof by way of affidavit.
