Breeder Sees Something Fishy in Telangana Fisheries Dept Order

The National Green Tribunal on Tuesday directed Telangana government to provide clarification on the notification that banned a certain fish in India.

The green regulator gave the direction on the plea by one Hussein Khan who had sought intervention of the court saying that the fish which he was breeding was banned by the Fisheries Department, State of Telangana saying that it was banned in India and could not be bred.

During today’s hearing, the petitioner told the bench headed by Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore that Fisheries Department have confused his fish with a banned breed of fish named Clarias Magur. However, his fish is a crossbreed fish which is not banned in India.

Upon the submissions of the petitioner, the bench sought response from the Fisheries Department.

Fisheries Department told the bench that it needed additional time to file affidavit to remove the confusion. The bench gave the time to file the response and adjourned the hearing to December 31.
