Delhi court convicts 4 members of Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent under UAPA

A local court in Delhi has convicted four members of Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Special Judge Sanjay Khanagwal at Patiala House Court convicted Mohd Asif, Mohd Abdul Rehman, Zafar Masood and Abdul Sami on Friday for conspiring to commit terrorist acts in the country and recruiting members for the terrorist group.

The AQIS members were convicted under Section 18, 18B of UAPA, which attracts maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

Special Judge Khanagwal is likely to decide the quantum of punishment on February 14.

Besides, the Trial Court acquitted co-accused Syed Mohd. Zeeshan Ali and Dr. Sabeel Ahmad on the grounds that the prosecution failed to prove their guilt.

The court directed to release them on a bond of Rs 10,000 each.
