Delhi High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Rajender Menon on Tuesday (August 28) sent a strong message to the Delhi government over non-payment of salaries to MCD school teachers. The court directed the government to pay the salaries within next 10 days, or contempt of court proceedings will be initiated against it.
The bench said in its order today: “If salaries are not paid within the next 10 days then the Delhi Chief Secretary and Education Secretary shall remain present in the court room, explaining the reasons.”
On the last hearing the court clarified that the Government of NCT of Delhi shall make payments to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and North Delhi Municipal Corporation with effect from November 1, 2017 in terms of the Recommendations of fourth Delhi Finance Commission as contained in page 235 (paragraphs 2 to 4), without prejudice to the respective rights and contentions of the parties.
