A petition is filed was filed on Tuesday in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court seeking to quash the nomination of Shoaib Iqbal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Matia Mahal constituency, for allegedly not submitting information of two criminal cases against him, in his nomination affidavit to the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, another writ petition was filed in High Court today against Vishesh Ravi, AAP MLA and candidate from Karol Bagh constituency, for allegedly giving false information regarding his educational qualification in his nomination affidavit to the Election Commission.
The two petitions come ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi slated for February 8. The counting of votes will take place on February 11.
Shoaib Iqbal is a former five-term MLA from Matia Mahal constituency. Iqbal joined AAP earlier this month in the presence of the party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
In 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, he was defeated by Aasim Ahmed Khan of the AAP. He had been with various political parties, including Janata Dal and the Congress.
Iqbal had won from Matia Mahal for five terms — 1993,1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 — and has served as the Deputy Speaker of Vidhan Sabha from 2003 to 2008.
While, Vishesh Ravi holds Karol Bagh (SC) Assembly Constituency. In the 2015 NCT OF Delhi Assembly Elections, he beat Yogender Chandoliya of BJP. Vishesh Ravi got 59.8 percent of the votes.
In 2015 Assembly Elections, he beat Yogender Chandoliya of Bhartiya Janta Party.
