Plea In HC Against Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan For His Alleged Inflammatory Statements Against Hindus

A petition has been filed in Delhi High Court against Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission, Government of NCT Delhi for allegedly making inflammatory and threatening statement against the Hindu Community.

In the petition filed by Mr. Manoranjan Kuma, it has been alleged that Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan has posted Inflammatory and threatening statements on Facebook calling, labeling, and referring the Hindu Community as Hindutva Bigots, and threatening the members of Hindu Community of dire consequences. It has also been alleged that he has intentionally and extremely cleverly with the intent of vigilantism and intention to cause a rift between religions at such a sensitive time when the Country is suffering from a Pandemic of Coronavirus.

The petition states, “That the Respondent/Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan has used the medium of social media and networking to propagate hatred amongst the Muslim community against Hindu Community.”

The petition has raised the issue that “Can the provisions under Article 19(2) of The Constitution of India be misused by the Respondent No.1 in the name of Freedom of Speech?”

The petitioner has sought directions for the District Magistrate or Police to file an FIR against the Chairman and has also sought directions to forfeit his Facebook Account. The petitioner has also sought direction from the court for the removal of Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan from the post of Chairperson in accordance with law under section 4(4) of Delhi Minorities Commission Act, 1999.
