A PIL letter petition has been filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the suspicious death of Mahant Narendra Giri President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad.
The PIL further seeks the immediate suspension of the District Magistrate and Special Superintendent of Police, Prayagraj. The letter petition has been filed through lawyer Sunil Choudhary in person.
According to the PIL, a reliable news portal of a daily newspaper dated 20.09.2021 carried a news item of the mysterious death of Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri who was found hanging in his room inside ashram at Bagambari Gaddi Math at Allahpur, Prayagraj.
The petitioner through his other sources inquired into the matter in which the residents of Bagambari Gaddi stated that due to huge financial misappropriation this incident took place and they have also stated that the Mahant Narendra Giri was provided security by the state of UP so how is it possible that he died in a mysterious way in the presence of large number of disciples and security?

The PIL highlighted that the news item reported that in this matter a high-ranked police officer and land mafia is involved. After the death of Giri, Prayagraj police arrested three persons. The death of Mahant Narendra Giri has shocked his followers and the law and order of Prayagraj is in great danger due to this, the petition said.
“If a higher police official is involved in the matter as per news so how it is possible to proceed with fair investigation by the Prayagraj police if they are being categorized in the list of suspects , so to enable fair investigation this court must take suo motu cognizance into the matter as early as possible,”

“That in the view of facts and circumstances of the case, it is necessary in the interest of justice that this Court may accept this present Public Interest Litigation through this Letter Petition and may take suo motu cognizance against respondents and others who are responsible for the occurrence of the death of President of Akhara Parishad, Mahant Narendra Giri found hanging in his room inside ashram i.e. Bagambari Gaddi Math at Allahpur, Prayagraj – Uttar Pradesh,”
