The Punjab and Haryana High Court has recently disposed of a PIL filed praying for a direction to the authorities not to cut the trees in the premises of the Civil Hospital, Mukerian.
The PIL has been filed by one Kuldip Rai Dogra. H.C. Arora, the counsel for the petitioner, submitted that the petitioner has served the respondent authorities with a legal notice/demand notice dated 30.10.2021 which has not been responded to, till date.
Avinit Avasthi, Assistant Advocate General (AAG), who appeared for the State of Punjab, submitted that the authorities have applied their mind on the issue and thereafter taken the decision. He, however, submitted that the legal notice of the petitioner shall be considered and decided by the authorities as expeditiously as possible.
AAG has assured the Court that the authorities would re-examine the technical feasibility of the project with an objective to save the age-old trees, if possible.
In view of the aforesaid statement made by State counsel, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha and Justice Arun Palli disposed of the petition.
