The Punjab High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed praying for a direction to the authorities to implement the Relief Manual of the Revenue Department (the Relief Manual-Part-I-Floods Chapter-I-Flood Warnings).
The PIL has been filed by one Simranjeet Singh Maan.
The counsel for the petitioner submits that in spite of there being such a provision and direction by the State, the local authorities are not taking the necessary action to clear the drainage of rivers, rivulets, canalas, minor canals, water recourses, choes etc. as a result of which, flood and other inconveniences have been caused to the general public at large.
He submits that in this regard the petitioner has even moved the authorities vide representations dated 07.06.2023 and 26.07.2022.
Faced with this, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, submits that representations of the petitioner would be considered and if so required necessary action thereon would be taken by the authorities concerned as expeditiously as possible.
Taking the statements made by the counsel for the parties on record, the petition is disposed of by the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha and Justice Arun Palli.
