The Rajasthan High Court has stayed the construction of any road passing through any of the lakes in Udaipur.
The Division Bench of Justices Sangeeta Lodha and Vinit Kumar Mathur on August 3 passed this order, while hearing a suo motu cognisance in an application for stay of tender notices issued in this regard.
The applicant prayed for reopening of the proceedings in D.B.Civil Writ (PIL) petition, which stands closed by virtue of orders dated February 2, 2018 and February 17, 2018 passed by the Court.
The grievance of the applicant in the stay petition was that ignoring the directions of the Court issued for cleaning of lakes in Udaipur, the Udaipur Smart City Limited has issued a notice, inviting tender for construction of alternative road from Chandpole to Brahmpole passing through the perimeter of Pichola lake.
The Counsel appearing for respondent Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) submitted that though the notice inviting tender was issued, no tender was received pursuant thereto and therefore, the contract has not been awarded till this date.
He further submitted that there is no possibility of the construction work of the proposed road being commenced in the near future.

The Court allowed two weeks time to the Additional Advocate General and the Counsel appearing for the respondents – UIT, Udaipur and Udaipur Smart City Limited, for filing of reply to the stay petition.
In the meanwhile and until further orders, no road passing through any of the lakes in Udaipur shall be constructed by the respondents, the Court ordered.
The Court has fixed the next hearing of the Petition September 17, 2021.
