Rajasthan High Court takes suo motu cognizance of deteriorating healthcare system in state

The Rajasthan High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the deteriorating healthcare system in the state, citing gross negligence in hospital administration. 

The court’s decision was prompted by two disturbing news reports highlighting inadequate healthcare facilities and negligence in government hospitals.

A Single Bench of Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand emphasized that the right to health is inherent to the right to life, as recognized in the Yajur Veda and Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

The court stressed the government’s constitutional obligation to provide healthcare facilities and ensure public welfare.

The Judge expressed concern over reports of gross negligence in hospital administration, including inadequate facilities and poor healthcare services.

The court issued notices to the Union of India, State of Rajasthan, and healthcare officials, seeking reports on ongoing efforts to improve the healthcare system .

The matter is listed for hearing on December 11, 2024.
