Kerala High Court calls for action against Sabarimala Devaswom guard who shoved pilgrims

The Kerala High Court has asked for a legal action against a Devaswom guard who in a viral video is shown to be shoving pilgrims in a violent manner in front of the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala temple.

A division bench of Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajithkumar after watching some videos of the incident, has strongly disapproved of the body language and facial expression of the guard.

The Court said that as stated in the report of the Special Commissioner, the body language and the facial expression of the Devaswom guard, while shoving the pilgrims in front of Sreekovil of Sabarimala Sannidhanam has to be deprecated in the strongest words.

The Court further added that such misbehavior towards pilgrims, calls for action.

The order was taken by the Court on the basis of a report submitted by the Sabarimala Special Commissioner regarding the misbehavior of the guard who was deployed by the Travancore Devaswom Board, on the Makaravilakku day, January 14.

The Chief Vigilance and Security officer in their report mentioned that the pressure of the crowd from the flyover to the temple after Deeparadhana, lead to congestion due to which for decongesting the area the guard pushed forward the devotees coming along the first row.

It was also added that the guard was relieved from duty at Sabarimala and sent back to his home station on the next day January 15.

The court directed the Chief Vigilance and Security Officer to submit an affidavit explaining the facts and circumstances along with any action taken in this regard.

The matter will be taken up next on January 24.
