Saibaba’s appeal for parole to attend mother’s last rites: Bombay HC asks govt to reply by Aug 18

New Delhi: With jailed Ex-Delhi University Professor GN Saibaba filing another emergency petition for parole, this time to attend the last rites of his mother who died on August 1, the High Court of Bombay has notified the state government for a reply.

Saibaba was convicted for a life term in 2017 for “Naxal links and indulging in activities amounting to waging a war against the country.”

Saibaba’s mother died on August 1 in Hyderabad due to cancer. He had applied for parole to attend the funeral of his mother but the same was denied by the court on the pretext that “it can’t be granted as he is a different kind of prisoner.

His earlier application seeking parole to see his ailing mother had also been rejected by the authorities.

Saibaba had approached the court twice, seeking bail, once in March and the second in July, but both the applications were dismissed by the court.
