Sale of Husain’s painting of Rajiv Gandhi: Delhi HC dismisses petition for probe

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition seeking directions to the CBI and ED to investigate the alleged selling of a painting of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor for Rs 2 crores by Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Milind Deora.

Justice Vibhu Bakhru, while hearing the matter through video conferencing, noted: “This court does not consider it apposite to entertain the writ petition.” The judge said that the NGO should approach the lower court, wherein another FIR, regarding the Yes Bank scam is already pending.

The petition has been filed by NGO Akhil Bhartiya Shanti Pratishtan, through advocate Rajeev Lochan. The petition sought directions to lodge an FIR against the Congress leaders and Rana Kapoor for allegedly laundering money, cheating, extortion, fraud, and misrepresentation.

The petition has also alleged that Deora is a partner conspirator in the case of selling the painting of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi made by renowned artist M.F. Husain.
