The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on a plea against the Karnataka High Court order dismissing bail applications of Kannada film actors Ragini Dwivedi and Shivaprakash in connection with the sandalwood drugs case till next week and will be listed before another bench.
The bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao, Navin Sinha and Indu Malhotra heard the petition today. The Apex Court on December 4, 2020 had issued notice on a plea filed by the Kannada actor seeking bail in the sandalwood drugs case. She had highlighted that she has been kept in jail for 90 days without any authentic proof or drugs recovery from her.
A bench headed by Justices R.F. Nariman, Navin Sinha and K.M. Joseph had sought response from the Karnataka government on Ragini Dwivedi’s plea. She and others were arrested by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch Police in September this year. The actors have been booked under sections 21, 21 C, 27B, 27A, 29 of NDPS Act and other sections under Indian Penal Code (IPC) for their alleged association with an international drug peddling racket, that revolved around supplying psychedelic drugs to customers at big-ticket events and rave parties.
