SC allows 2 weeks to JNU student Sharjeel Imam to file additional documents

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today has granted two weeks time to JNU student Sharjeel Imam to file additional documents in his petition seeking clubbing of FIRs registered against him.

A three-judge bench, comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, R. Subhash Reddy and M.R. Shah, has listed the matter for next hearing after two weeks.

The counsel appearing for Imam submitted that further developments have happened and they have to inspect court files, but due to the closure of courts they have not been able to do it.

Five different FIRs at Delhi, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have been registered against Sharjeel Imam for his speech during the anti-CAA protests in Delhi.

The plea has been filed against sedition charges slapped against Imam, alleging that a speech by him had “promoted enmity” between people and led to riots in and around Delhi’s Jamia Milia Islamia University on December 15, 2019.
