SC says no to even morphed images of child rape victims in media

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta, which had taken sou moto cognisance of the horrific rape of children at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Thursday (August 2) has issued a restraining order on the media from telecasting images and videos of children/women who have been sexually assaulted.

The court also said a child rape victim’s identity cannot be revealed in any form over any media, not even morphed images. The court was concerned that such identities were being revealed in the media.

In the Bihar tragedy over 30 minor girls were sedated, tortured and raped at a government funded shelter home. In all 42 girls were rescued from the home.

The details were revealed when the Tata Institute of Social Sciences,  auditing the state’s welfare homes came across this horrible act. the main culprit, Brijesh Thakur (55), in charge fo the home, has been arrested.
