Seal the area, ban entry in Gyanvapi Mosque complex: Court to District Magistrate of Varanasi

A local court directed the Varanasi District Magistrate on Monday to ban the entry of any person in the area of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, where a Shivaling was found during the videography survey of the area, which was ordered on April 26 by the same court.

The court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar passed the order, while admitting an application filed by Counsel of the plaintiffs, Hari Shankar Jain, saying that it was worth admissible in the interest of justice.

The Court further directed the Varanasi DM to seal the area with immediate effect.

It will be the personal responsibility of the Varanasi DM, the Police Commissioner, the Police Commissionerate and the CRPF Commandant, to protect and secure the place which has been sealed, ordered the Court.

It further directed the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh to supervise the steps taken by the local administration in the sealed area.

Jain requested the Court that since a Shivaling was found inside the mosque complex during the commission process, which was an important evidence, the CRPF Commandant should be directed to seal the area with immediate effect.

He further urged the court to direct the Varanasi DM to ban the entry of Muslims there, only 20 minority community members should be allowed to offer Namaz and that they should be banned from doing ‘wazu’ with immediate effect.

The videography-survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex was completed on Monday by a team of Advocate Commissioners, along with the Counsels of both the parties, plaintiff and respondents.

The Advocate Commissioners will on Tuesday submit their report in the court.
