Shraddha Walkar murder case: Delhi Police files 6629-page charge sheet, custody of Aftab Poonawala extended till February 7

The Delhi Police filed a 6,629-page charge sheet on Tuesday in a local court of Delhi against Aftab Amin Poonawala, accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into 35 pieces before dumping them in different parts of the city.

The Saket court dealing with the case also extended the custody of Poonawala, who was presented through video-conferencing, for two weeks till February 7. It further directed the police to produce Aftab physically before the court on February 7.

Poonawala apprised the court that he wanted to change his present Counsel, Advocate M.S. Khan.

Sources said that police have prepared a draft charge sheet of over 3000 pages on the basis of testimony of 100 witnesses, along with forensic and electronic evidence.

They added that legal experts were currently looking into the charge sheet, which contained more than 100 statements of witnesses.

It was further learnt that the statements given by Poonawala during his polygraph and narco-analysis tests and police interrogation were same.  Sources said that Aftab did not like Shraddha going to meet a friend on May 18.

He became violent over this and in a fit of rage, killed Shraddha with a saw-like object.

Sources said that bone and hair samples collected from the father and brother of the victim matched with DNA reports of Shraddha Walkar. Traces of blood stains were also recovered from the bathroom of the rented accommodation in Chattarpur, where Aftab and Shraddha lived, they added.

Shraddha, 27, met Aftab on dating application Bumble, from where they got into a friend zone, which later changed into a full fledged relationship and then to live-in. The couple was earlier residing in Maharashtra before shifting to Delhi this year, where they took a house in Chhatarpur.

As per reports, the couple used to often quarrel over financial issues. On May 18, they picked up yet another fight, during which the accused lost control over his anger and killed the victim.

The 28-year-old allegedly chopped Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces, stored it in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence and later dumped the parts in different areas of the city over the next 18 days.
