The Supreme Court of India on Friday issued a notification whereby the court has declared the period of summer vacation for the year 2020 as period of functioning of the Court.
The notifications reads as, “In partial modification of notification of even number dated 14th October, 2019 notifying the list of Supreme Court Holidays 2020 and the Summer vacation of the court, it is hereby notified that the five week period from 18th May, 2020 to 19th June, 2020 (both days inclusive) of the summer vacation of the Supreme Court Calender 2020 has been rescheduled and declared as period of functioning of the Hon’ble Court. The Rest of the aforesaid notification dated 14th October, 2019 remains unchanged.”
The Supreme Court thus decided to work in the period of Summer Vacation to make up for the loss caused due to imposition of nationwide lockdown to contain the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19.
High Courts across country has already cancelled their as well as subordinate courts’ summer vacation and decided to work for the entire period.
