The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended eleven additional judges of the Bombay High Court to be made permanent judges.
The name of the eleven judges are:
- Justice Urmila Sachin Joshi-Phalke;
- Justice Kishore Chandrakant Sant;
- Justice Kamal Rashmi Khat;
- Justice Sharmila Uttamrao Deshmukh;
- Justice Arun Ramnath Pedneker;
- Justice Sandeep Vishnupant Marne;
- Justice Gauri Vinod Godse;
- Justice Rajesh Shantaram Patil;
- Justice Valmiki SA Menezes;
- Justice Arif Saleh Doctor and
- Justice Bharat Pandurang Deshpande
The Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud passed a resolution to that effect.
As per the resolution, the Bombay High Court Collegium had also unanimously recommended these 11 judges to be made permanent on December 14, 2023.
The above recommendation was concurred by the he Chief Ministers and the Governors of the States of Maharashtra and Goa.
Talking about Justice Joshi-Phalke and Justice Deshpande, they were notified as additional judges by the Central government on June 3, 2022.
The other 9 were notified as additional judges by the Central government on July 16, 2022.
The Bombay High Court strength of 40 permanent judges and 28 additional judges at present.
