The Supreme Court has ordered its Registry not to entertain any black and white photographs as part of pleadings without its prior permission.
The order to discontinue the longstanding practice was passed by the Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan on Monday while hearing a land compensation and rehabilitation case from Daman & Diu.
The Apex Court said for a long time, it has been observed that the parties took full liberty in placing on record black and white photocopies of photographs, most of which were blurred.
Earlier on August 20, the same Bench had taken exception to lawyers relying on ‘misleading’ photographs captured through mobile phones and added to pleadings.
The Bench had made the observation after finding out that certain photos annexed to pleadings submitted in a land encroachment case were taken by a mobile camera.
The Apex Court warned that one day it would pass an extremely harsh order against the members of the Bar for filing misleading photos before this Court. This did not happen in High Courts.
The Bench had further warned of cancelling the licenses of those Advocates found guilty of indulging in such practices.
