Supreme Court dismisses PIL seeking judicial probe in Pahalgam terror attack

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking judicial investigation by a retired Supreme Court judge into the Pahalgam terror attack, which led to the killing of 26 tourists.

The Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice NK Singh came down heavily on petitioner Fatesh Sahu for demoralising the forces at such a crucial hour, asking him to behave as a responsible counsel.

Stressing on the sensitivity of the issue, the top court of the country observed that each and every Indian should join hands to fight terrorism.

It further said that the task of the judges was to decide on disputes and not conduct inquiries. Since when did the retired Supreme Court and High Court judges become experts in investigation, asked the Bench.

The counsel for the petitioner, while seeking permission to withdraw the prayer for probe, insisted for directions to protect the Kashmiri students studying outside Jammu and Kashmir, who were allegedly being targeted in the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre.

After the Apex Court refused to pass any directions, the petitioner sought to withdraw the plea, which was allowed.

The top court of the country granted liberty to the petitioner to approach the concerned High Court for redressal of problems faced by the J&K students studying in different states.

The top court of the country is seized of another petition, seeking more security and safety measures in sensitive hill states.
