The Supreme Court today disposed of the matter pertaining to the petitions seeking quashing of ICSE and CBSE exams amid COVID 19 Pandemic.

The scheme prepared by CBSE which has been filed in the Court. The scheme provides the following guidelines.

  • For the students of both classes-X and XIl, who have completed all their examinations, their results will be declared based on their performance in the examinations.
  • For students who have appeared in the examinations in more than 3 subjects, the average of the marks obtained in best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.
  • There are very few students of class-XII, mainly from Delhi, who have appeared in the examinations in only 1 or 2 subjects. Advocate Rishi Malhotra appearing for the petitioners submitted that the CBSE had given option to students to give exam, however no timeline has been provided to opt for the exam. He further suggested that the students should be given the option to take exam atleast 2 weeks time after the declaration of the results.

However Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that the option was being oven when the situation would appear to be conducive and it was a pro student measure.

Senior Counsel Jaideep Gupta appearing for ICSE submitted  that their affidavit is more or less the same. However their formula for assessment is different from that of CBSE.

The bench was further informed that the notification with the assessment formula will be published on the website within a week.

Both ICSE and CBSE have submitted that the exam results will be declared by July 15.
