Swami Chinmayanand’s bail hearing posted for 8th Nov, girl’s bail hearing on 6th Nov

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday posted former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand’s bail plea for hearing on 8th November in the sexual exploitation case against him, after the judicial custody term ended.

Justice Rahul Chaturvedi asked the prosecution to file its reply to Chinmayanand’s bail application by 4th November while further directing counter-reply to be submitted by defence counsel by 7th November.

The bail application of the law student, who alleged sexual exploitation, and was later arrested on charges of extortion from the former Union Minister is slated for hearing on 6th November.

On Supreme Court’s directive, the Uttar Pradesh Government had constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe allegations of sexual exploitation against Chinmayanand. The Allahabad High court was asked to monitor the probe.The BJP leader was arrested on 20th September. Eventually, it was revealed that the girl was attempting to extort money from the leader. She and her three friends were arrested on 25th September.

Chinmayanand is currently lodged in a Shahjahanpur Jail. He is being defended by Sr. Adv. Dilip Kumar while the girl, in her extortion case, is being defended by Sr. Adv. Ravi Kiran Jain.
