Allahabad High Court dismisses PIL seeking teaching of taekwondo, judo, karate to girls

The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to the respondents to include taekwondo, judo and karate course in classes 1 to 8 of girls for their becoming independent, self-confident and facing the difficulties of life in the future.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Vikas Budhwar passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by Smt Shalini Agrawal.

The Court observed that the same apparently has been filed, without having any research and/or investigation on the subject matter and a letter purportedly was written on 2nd, May, 2024 to the Chief Minister, which was sent by registered post, and within 15 days on 17.5.2024 the petition has been filed seeking the above directions.

Filing of the public interest litigation for the purpose, by sending a letter and approaching the Court in public interest cannot be countenanced.

“Only general averments have been made in the petition requiring the girls to have independence, self-confidence etc, however, no further indications have been made as to the availability of the trained staff for the purpose of imparting training to the students aged 6 to 14 studying in Class 1 to 8.

In that view of the matter, we do not find it an appropriate case for entertaining in public interest,” the Court further observed while dismissing the petition.
