The Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed State Government to file a reply on a petitions alleging police excesses in the State.

Court make it clear that it will not do anything to demoralize the police as its struggling to enforce the lockdown for a larger good of society.

A bench division bench of Chief Justice Raghavendra singh Chauhan and Justice T Amaranth Goud has directed the State Home Secretary, the DGP and other police authorities to file a reply on incidents complaining police excesses in the state.

The bench was hearing a batch of petitions in the form of letters addressed to the Chief Justice to ensure that the Police was acting within the guidelines of the Government’s order amid COVID-19 Pandemic.

While passing an order directing the state to reply, the bench made it clear that it was not going to pass any strict orders against the Police since they are ensuring that no person violates the lockdown in larger public interest. However the bench ensured that it would advise the Police authorities to enquire why people were outside before “statraightway beating them”.

Advocate General BS Prasad informed the bench that the Director General of Police has said that it will be ensured that a friendly approach is adopted by the Police while dealing with people amid COVID-19 lockdown and necessary instructions are given to the Police.

The matter has been listed for next hearing on April 17.
