The Telangana High Court directed the state government to ensure that proper treatment was being given to non COVID patients and to ensure availability of sufficient number of ambulances across the state to carry patients in need to the nearest hospitals.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan & Justice B Vijaysen Reddy was hearing a petition in the form of a letter addressed to the Chief Justice by Advocate K. Kishore highlighting an incident of a 20 years old pregnant woman from Gadwal district who along with her child died as the hospitals refused to treat her.
The husband of the deceased woman visited six hospitals and had to travel about 200 km to Hyderabad where the deceased delivered a baby. However, within a few hours the newborn and the mother died after their health conditions deteriorated.
The bench further directed the state government to issue a circular to all the government hospitals with a mandate to extend medical services to all those who approach the hospitals in emergencies. The bench also directed the state to file a reply on the issue involving the death of the 20 years old woman.
The High Court has listed the case for further hearing on 20th of May, 2020.
