The Telangana High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) registered on the basis of communication dated 15.09.2023 addressed to the High Court and pertaining to implementation of the comprehensive “Crop Insurance Scheme” which covers all types of losses faced by the farmers in the State of Telangana.
As per the averments made in the communication dated 15.09.2023 addressed to the High Court, it is stated that Telangana is the only State in the country where the farmers are denied any type of crop insurance scheme and the State Government is not even implementing the Central Government Scheme namely Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and has opted out of the same.
It has further been stated in the communication that crops around 2.23 lakh acres were damaged in the month of March, 2023 and last week of April, 2023.
It is further stated that instead of making payment into crop insurance scheme, the State Government is making payment of Transferred to i/o folder, before corrections, if any. compensation to the tune of Rs.10,000/- per acre.
In view of aforesaid submission, the division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar issued notice to the State, Centre, Commissioner of Agriculture and Director of Horticultural.
