The Delhi High Court bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the Bar Council of India along with all concerned Bar Associations and granted protection to the ASIs Pawan Kumar and Kamta Prasad Yadav from any coercive action  till the completion of the judicial inquiry in the Tis Hazari clashes of November 2, 2019.

The court will further hear the matter on December 23, 2019.

The Delhi Police had filed an application for interim protection of the officers who allegedly shot at the lawyer at Tis Hazari court complex during the lawyer-police scuffle on November 2, following which several vehicles were vandalized.

The applicant cops stated that they have fully co-operated with the Special Investigation Team of the Crime Branch and an arrest despite that, would be ‘travesty of justice’ upon him.

The application seeks the quashing of an order by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jitendra Singh who has directed the Delhi Police to file a compliance report on the action taken by it in connection with the FIRs registered after the clashes. The court had also directed the Delhi Police to preserve CCTV footage of the incident.

The Delhi Bar Association had sought the court’s order for a report in the FIR and directions of arrest of the accused cops.

The Bar Council of Delhi and the Delhi Police had announced compensation to the injured lawyers and policemen respectively after the clashes.
