The Uttarakhand High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed raising the grievance with regard to the non-construction of a new bridge near Landhaura-Jaurasi Jabardastpur road.
The PIL has been filed by one Subhash Chand.
The old bridge, which is stated to be 125 years old, is incapable of carrying heavy traffic, leading to grave inconvenience to the people in the neighbourhood , the Petitioner alleged.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Ravindra Maithani observed that there can be no excuse for not undertaking construction of a new bridge.
Rakesh Thapliyal, the Assistant Solicitor General for the Union of India states that the State Government has been asked to provide funds to the tune of Rs. 2.1 crores for construction of a new bridge. However, the said amount has not been released by the State Government.
“The State Government should examine the issue and take immediate steps for release of the amount so that the construction of the new bridge can be undertaken without any delay. The status in that regard should also be indicated in the counter affidavit. List on 11.04.2023”, the order reads.
