Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee approaches Supreme Court against Allahabad High Court December 19 order

The Supreme Court of India has been approached by the Anjuman Intezamia Committee against order of Dec 19, 2023 given by Allahabad High Court which dismissed 5 petitions of Muslim side that questioned the maintainability of a 1991 suit filed by Hindu side for worshipping rights in Gyanwapi mosque.

The Allahabad High Court has today refused to put a stay on the ongoing Puja inside the southern cellar of Varanasi-based Gyanvapi mosque.

The bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal of Allahabad High Court in his judgement on the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (AIMC) appeal which challenged the order of challenging the order of Varanasi District Judge stated that Hindu devotees shall be allowed to offer prayers inside the ‘Vyas Ka Tehkhana’ area in the Gyanvapi mosque complex.The Allahabad High Court in its order ruled that the suit is not barred by Place Of Worship Act.

The Allahabad HighCourt ruled that 1991 suit by Hindus for worshipping rights is maintainable.It has also set a 6-month deadline for pronouncement of judgment

Appeal calls suit “attempt to disturb communal peace & harmony..blatant attempt to breach the fraternity existing between the communities”
