Assam Children Out of NRC Will Not Be Sent To Detention Camps: Centre To Supreme Court

Supreme Court today ordered inter-cadre transfer of Assam NRC co-ordinator Mr. Prateek Hajela to Madhya Pradesh.

The CJI-led three judge bench hearing Assam Public Works v Union of India said, “the bench has assembled only for a limited purpose,” and then stated their order of deputation.

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal inquired, “Is there a reason for this?”

The Chief Justice replied, “No order will be without a reason.”

Court has ordered for a maximum period of deputation relevant in accordance with law. The competent authority has been directed to execute the court order within 7 days.

Earlier, Prateek Hajela, originally from Madhya Pradesh, had submitted a confidential report to the Supreme Court.

Mr. Hajela was in charge of preparation of the NRC which excluded 19 lakh residents from the register. There have been allegations of discrepancy in the list published on 31st August this year.
