PIL in Supreme Court wants CBSE Class XII board exams cancelled

The plea has sought direction to the respondents to cancel the examination of Class XII

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court, seeking direction to declare the results of class XII students on the basis of their earlier grading as their main final examination.
The petition filed by Advocate Mamta Sharma amid the widespread of Covid-19 pandemic, which is more severe and worse than last year.

The plea states: “In view of the unprecedented health emergency and rising numbers of the Covid -19 cases in the Country, the conduct of examination (either offline/online/blended) in upcoming weeks is not possible and delay in examination will cause irreparable loss to the students as time is the essence in taking admission in higher education courses in foreign universities.”

Sharma states that around 77 students reached out to her with their grievances over the issue, while further digging into the issue Sharma found more than 8 Lakh tweets addressed to PMO, Ministry of Human Resource Development and CBSE to cancel the class XII examinations, considering the stress and the anxiety level of the students.

The plea has sought direction to the respondents to cancel the examination of Class XII and devise an objective methodology to declare the result of class XII within a specific timeframe.
