The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear pleas challenging the constitutional validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act after Holi break. The top court will be closed for a week from March 9 to 15. However, for the first time, the Supreme Court will set up a vacation bench during the Holi break.
Senior Counsel Kapil Sibal had mentioned the petitions before a bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde seeking for an urgent hearing of CAA matters and said that till date, the Centre has not filed a reply in the matter.
Attorney General KK Venugopal then informed the court that the Centre would file its reply in the matter in two days.
The court said that it would take up the pleas after the Sabarimala matter and told Sibal that he could again mention the matter then.
A nine-judge bench has been hearing the Sabarimala case to adjudicate seven legal questions that arose from the original petition challenging the ban on women’s entry in Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.
The bench will resume the hearing on March 16.
