On the occasion of the flag hoisting ceremony at the Supreme Court on India’s 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday, two comments took centre stage. In one, Chief Justice Dipak Misra, referring to recent comments made in the media by some lawyers against judges and judgments, said that there were some people trying to bring down the prestige and honour of the courts of India.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it takes a long time to build an institution, but takes a short time to destroy it. This should not happen.

Meanwhile, senior jurist Vikas Singh, who is also the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, warned that lawyers and judges should be careful about making comments in court since “all were being reported in the media these days.”

Also present on the occasion was Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
