The EDMC Commissioner on Friday (Sep 28) prayed to the Supreme Court that the award of 4th finance commission be implemented so that he gets Rs 18,000 crores and pay the safai karamcharis.
“Out of the Rs 23000 crores coming from taxes and GST, 12 per cent is given to the corporations. In 2013-14 the corporation was to get around Rs 29000 crores but only got Rs 400 crores,” the Commissioner said.
To which the Justice Madan B Lokur said: “Why have you kept quiet for five years.”
The bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was hearing a plea seeking adherence to solid waste management rules in the national capital region.
Deputy Commissioner of SDMC said that up to 2017-18 payment was made to the safai karamcharis but the problem arose this year 2018-19.
Justice Lokur retorted: “Either the corporation is over spending or not spending at all.”
Delhi government counsel said that under the 14th finance commission, the Centre has allotted funds to the State.
The bench posted the matter for next hearing to Oct 3.
