A former MLA from Tamil Nadu, Bader Sayeed, has filed a fresh plea in the Supreme Court asking to declare triple-talaq unconstitutional. According to Sayeed the system provides all the rights to men to exercise the power of divorce She says that triple-talaq is against the rights of women and has asked the SC to form certain guidelines to bring clarity on the subject of triple-talaq.

The triple-talaq comes under the provisions of Muslim personal law.
The issue of triple-talaq came into light last month after 35 year old Shayara Bano from Kashipur, Uttarakhand filed a case in Supreme Court against instantaneous triple-talaq, polygamy and Halala. On this, Supreme Court had sought the response of Centre to questioning the legality of the provision.
Last week, Afreen Rehman from Jaipur also received a talaq-nama from her husband through speed post, she also took the matter to Supreme Court.
