Funds for memorials were sanctioned through budgetary allocations, Mayawati tells SC

BSP Supremo Mayawati filed an affidavit and told the Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 2) that monuments are meant to popularize values and ideals of social activists and not to promote symbol of BSP and that statue of her and others were built from the funds sanctioned through budgetary allocations and approval of state legislature.

BSP supremo has filed the affidavit complying with the apex court order asking as her to clear her stand and return the huge public money which she spent on installation of many statutes of herself and elephants in UP.

“This is our conditional opinion that Madam Mayawati refund the public treasury all the money wasted on these elephants,” the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi headed bench had said while hearing a plea by Ravi Kant seeking recovery of the sum of money invested on statues in memorial parks dedicated to BSP founder Kanshi Ram in Uttar Pradesh.
