The Supreme Court has been approached by former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren, challenging his arrest in the land scam money laundering probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The matter was mentioned before a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal.
The CJI has now agreed to list the case for hearing on Friday.
The Enforcement Directorate was represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who said that the arrest of Soren was challenged yesterday before the Jharkhand High Court, which was slated to hear the matter today.
Sibal responded by telling the court that the plea before the High Court would be withdrawn and requested the Apex Court to intervene.
Hemant Soren stepped down from his post as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand last night in the wake of his arrest by the ED in connection with a land scam money laundering probe.
As per reports, Champai Soren will step in as Jharkhand Chief Minister in Hemant Soren’s absence.
